Pilanesberg Game Reserve protects a sizeable tract of malaria-free bush roamed by all the Big Five. Its mountainous landscapes reflect a time in the distant past when much of the reserve would have lain within a volcanic caldera. Here you can expect to see iconic safari favorites such as lion, elephant, buffalo, white rhino and giraffe, along with an interesting selection of antelope, small carnivores and birds reflecting a location sitting between the dry Kalahari scrub of the west and the moist savannah of the east.
Put on some warm clothes and enjoy an early morning game drive. This is the perfect time to experience the wildlife and the landscapes they inhabit. The light is soft and warm – perfect for photography – and most animals are out and about, and active. If you’re not an early riser, you’ll definitely want to make an exception here.
