When you enter Greater Kruger, you're crossing into one of Africa's largest and most ecologically important conservation areas. Comprising the state-owned Kruger National Park and a number of abutting private reserves, this peerless 23,000km² safari destination is home to an incredible 150 mammal and 500 bird species. It's probably the last place on earth to support sustainable breeding populations of all of Africa’s Big Five.

Kruger National Park

Get ready for a thrilling safari in the world-famous Kruger National Park, a vast sanctuary where 150 different mammal species roam freely across an area two-thirds the size of Belgium. Kruger offers exceptional wildlife viewing, thanks to the presence of substantial populations of safari favorites such as lion, leopard, cheetah, African wild dog, elephant, black rhino, white rhino, giraffe, zebra, buffalo and wildebeest. But it also offers the opportunity to focus on less glamorous creatures, from graceful antelopes and boisterous baboons to colorful lizards and an astonishing 500-plus bird species.

The magnificent mountain scenery of Mpumalanga’s escarpment region is highlighted on the Panorama Route. Here you can explore a varied mosaic of sweeping viewpoints, lush evergreen forests, cascading waterfalls and other beauty spots situated in the fertile Drakensberg highlands flanking the immense Blyde River Canyon.
